What is intra-operative Neuromonitoring?
It is a surgical grade system which helps your surgeon to locate and monitor the relevant nerves of the patient during the surgery.

Why is Neuromonitoring required in surgery?
In every brain and spine surgery there is a risk of accidental nerve injury. Any nerve injury can lead to severe problems for the patient and the family. Intra-operative nerve monitoring helps your surgeon to locate the nerve and monitor nerve function continuously during the surgery. Any change in nerve function is detected by the system to alert the surgeon and the OT staff so that they can modify their surgical approach immediately to prevent nerve injury. At the end of the surgery, your surgeon can again check all the relevant nerve functions and be assured before completing the surgery. Multiple studies have also demonstrated that use of IONM can significantly reduce the risk of nerve injury. Use of IONM is also recommended by multiple international guidelines for Spine surgery.
How does Neuro-monitoring work?
With a stimulator and monitoring electrodes, IONM forms an electrical circuit with the patient’s nerve to monitor the electric signal continuously or periodically during the entire surgery. The system can do this for multiple nerves at the same time. It can monitor both the motor and sensory function of the patient’s nerve.
The system records multiple signal parameters like amplitude, latency, etc to monitor the nerve function. Any change detected is used to alert the surgical team so that appropriate action is taken to prevent nerve injury.
